The first decade of Sarah’s career began in marketing, communications and business development in the non-profit industry here in DC. She holds a B.S. in Business and French from the University of South Carolina and an M.S. in Peace Operations from George Mason University.
Sarah has worked on programs addressing domestic and transatlantic policies giving her a bit of international perspective. Her professional and educational experiences serve her well as a risk manager for the FAA. Mitigating risks involves constant interaction with the client to ensure steps are carried out for the successful implementation of a program. While she facilitates recurring meetings to stay on-track, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work at play to maintain updates consistently. She finds it critical to keep key team members informed and to identify leaders within the organization to mitigate each risk. Sarah sees building relationships as an integral part of her position, keeping her focus and approach human-centered.
Sarah’s first job: Sarah did her fair share of babysitting, but her first real job was rolling pretzels at the Pretzel Twister in her hometown of Charleston, SC at the age of 15. Sarah says that pretzel making is serious business–You have to make the dough fresh, get it to the right consistency and work with an extremely hot oven. However, the leftovers were definitely worth it.
