How Can I Build My Personal Brand?
The most crucial aspect of building a personal brand is making sure you own it. There are times we show others a version of us that may not be entirely true. In doing so, you can create a chain of interactions based on false pretenses. According to MindTools, doing what you love and what sits comfortably with you leads to happiness and fulfillment. It allows you to identify and be comfortable with both your strengths and weaknesses. So let’s explore different ways we can be and brand the real version of ourselves!
Know Your Value
By knowing what you bring to the table, you create opportunities to build on your strengths.
Understand Your Attitude
Would you rather be trustworthy and reliable, or hardworking and capable? The way you show up will relay your attitude and affect perceptions of you.
While we may have an off day here and there, consistency proves reliability in ourselves, others’ experiences around us, and our work.
Dress As Yourself
Every organization has a dress code, but even still, people tend to make assumptions based on what your wear. Keep in mind that you can conform without compromising your identity!
Live Your Brand
Be authentic, do not try to be someone you are not. Your brand is a reflection of your whole self, so let it follow you everywhere!

Learn How Evans Thrives!
What better way to inspire you to thrive than to hear about real people making it happen? And what better way to learn about Evans than to make those real people Evans employees and partners?
Meet Nikki Jedlicka!
Once upon a time (before I joined Evans), I was summoned to HR for a slap on the wrist because of – wait for it – a sunny yellow blouse. The blouse itself was fine, but yellow was cause for concern. “We have conservative clients and encourage a neutral color palette,” I was told. “Please dress exclusively in black, grey, and white!”
Many moons and black suits later, I learned to build my personal brand by syncing professionalism with personality. It was futile to completely suppress my love of color, proclivity for whimsical humor, and penchant for building relationships with storytelling. So how do you develop a personal brand and appeal to inevitably diverse customers without betraying your own authentic self?
- Play it safe in the beginning.
- Listen more, talk less.
- Get to know your customer’s brand first.
- Engage with the client being unapologetically him/herself.
- Start incorporating yellow. One accessory at a time!
I may not wear bright yellow anymore, and I might wait a couple weeks to debut my stories and jokes. But at the end of the day, the best personal accessories you can carry are an open mind, a positive attitude, and an ability to adapt to the people and circumstances around you.
Until Next Time…
